Best Time for Paragliding in Kamshet — Season, Slots & Weather

When Kamshet flies, when it doesn’t, and how to pick the right slot for your kind of flight.

Kamshet’s paragliding season runs October to May — roughly eight months of reliable flying before the southwest monsoon arrives and grounds everything until October. Within that window, the "best" time depends on what kind of flight you want.

Calm, smooth air or energetic thermals; misty winter mornings or long summer afternoons — the valley delivers different experiences across the season and even across a single day.

Season at a glance

  • October – November: post-monsoon greenery, gentle conditions — beautiful for first flights.
  • December – February: the calmest, most predictable window; crisp air and clear lake views.
  • March – May: warmer, stronger thermals — higher climbs and longer airtime for the same price.
  • June – September: closed. Monsoon makes take-offs unsafe and landing fields unusable.

Morning vs afternoon slots

Mornings (from ~8 AM) bring smooth, laminar wind — the gentlest rides and the best choice for nervous flyers and first-timers. Afternoons heat the valley and generate thermals: bumpier, but they carry you higher and can extend airtime.

Weekends fill first at both windows, so book at least a day ahead — earlier in December–January peak season.

Weather calls on the day

Wind is checked each morning. If conditions are unsafe, your slot moves to the next flyable window or is refunded — you never fly in marginal weather.

Quick recommendation

  • First-timers & kids: winter morning slot.
  • Photography: October–November for greenery, winter for clarity.
  • Longest airtime: March–May afternoon.
  • Guaranteed smoothness: December–February.
